Back in Session

Unger Academy has begun the school year. This week Jonah had an assignment to write a story about your favorite "senior citizen." I laughed at the wording of the assignment and did my best to explain what that means. Jonah is 6 though, so his perception is anyone older than mom and dad is a "senior citizen." He chose to write a story from our recent trip to Kansas City this past weekend. Those of you who know John Unger will probably fall out of your chair laughing like I did, just in the mere fact that Jonah chose him as his "senior citizen" of the day!!! He is still so childlike at heart that it is even funnier to imagine him as a senior citizen, since he is only in his 40's (for those of you who don't know him). Here is Jonah's story, and a picture of John captured doing one of his special skills! I am so thankful for the time spent with family and the gift of laughter today...hope you got a laugh as well.

"One time my family went to a wedding. My Great-Uncle John was there. He told me to catch some fireflies. The first one I catched, he squished it on my hand. My hand was glowing green. It made me laugh. The second time I catched one, it flew on my Dad's head. Then Uncle John showed me how to whistle. I practiced and practiced, and the next day "I got it!" Then we went home."

I love six degrees of Kevin Bacon...there's Uncle John and his "own oddity" submitted by none other than Carol Kouba Young...a friend of mine for over 25 years (don't tell anyone that we're that old!).
